Fun Dives - Apo_Island contact us

50 nautical miles South-West from Alona Beach lies APO Island, one of the most successful Marine Sanctuaries. Strict regulations prohibit anchoring. Moorings are used and only 15 divers a day are allowed in the Sanctuary itself. On this way, beautiful and healthy fixed life as well as abundant variety and quantity of small reef fish to larger pelagic promise some very good diving.
Depth: Up to 35m(115ft).
Visibility:
Up to 30-35m(100-115ft).

THE SANCTUARY: Due to its remote location and the 15 divers/day restriction, diving the sanctuary in the South-East part of APO, give the sensation of diving in a private coral garden. The gentle drop-off dressed with huge Coral Heads, Gorgonian Sea Fans, Barrel, tube and Elephant Ear Sponges, Coral Tables, black Corals, Whip Corals, Feather Stars, soft and hard Corals, big Oysters, lovely Cowries, Anemones and Clownfish, offers scenery from which we can't be wearied.

Surrounding all this profusion of fixed life, shoals of fish, Royal Angelfish, Bannerfish, Pufferfish, Trumpetfish, Thousands of Blue Anthias, Damselfish, Snappers, Titan or Orangestriped Triggerfish give movements to the reef while Bluefin Trevallies, Jacks, Barracudas and Tuna may be seen patrolling in the blue surrounding water.

This 155, 827- hectare atoll-like reef is located 20 miles (32km) west of Occidental Mindoro and is divided by a narrow channel into 2 lagoon systems (north and south). This channel runs from east to west and its depth varies from 5.9 ft (1.8m) to 90 ft. (27m). A brilliant white sand bottom, numerous coral formations and patches of branching coral are evidence throughout the area.
Some 385 species of fish are in residence in the general area, including sharks, stingrays, eagle rays, mantas, tuna and schools of jacks and snappers, as well as swarms of vividly hued reef fish. Lots and lots of turtles! Coral species number around 400-500 and three ships have also been known to have found their final resting place amongst the marine inhabitants of this reef.

COCONUTS PLACE: At the East tip of the island, in front of a coconut plantation, a slopping sandy bottom descends slowly to 30m(100ft) plus. In the shallower area, a surprising contrast due to the dark gray sandy bottom appears, making Sponges, Crinoids or Gorgonian Sea Fans luminous with bright and powerful yellow, orange, white and blue colors that underwater photographers will shoot with great pleasure. Following the slope, large Coral Heads and Coral Formations harbour an impressive diversity of marine life. In the deeper area, a large sandy bay sheltering Garden Eels, is a good place to encounter large shoals of Jacks swimming against the current, which may be strong.
